Rockshield EWP produces aspen core plywood for domestic and international markets. Our operations are located in Cochrane, Ontario, some 700 km north of Toronto.

The core blanks of our plywood are made with aspen logs from sustainably-managed forests in Northern Ontario. The majority of our wood panels are finished with an overlaid hardwood veneer such as oak, cherry, maple, birch, etc. The finished panels are then ready to use in a number of different applications, including cabinetry, furniture making and building materials (e.g. stair parts, wood paneling, etc.).

Trembling aspen is the most prolific hardwood specifies in this forest region and is ideal for production of hardwood plywood due to its light to white color, uniform texture, good dimensional stability, and low shrinkage. It also resists splintering in machines and sands well, all of which are desired characteristics in the end-use markets.

Rockshield

Our History

The mill, built in 1963 by the Perron family, originally produced aspen plywood, a commodity used as sheathing in building construction. The supply of aspen around Cochrane being abundant, the plant then transitioned to aspen veneer plywood in 1993, and has been producing it ever since.

Markets Served

Rockshield EWP’s panels are intended to be used in high-end kitchen cabinets, architectural millwork and fine cabinets and furniture throughout Canada and the Mid-west, Northeast and Atlantic regions of the U.S.
